Emma and Mitch

The gorgeous Emma and Mitch were married on a perfect spring Friday in November at Lot19 Wickham.
Emma was an absolute dream of a bride and we loved their super chill elopement style micro wedding.
So many emotions were captured beautifully by Caitlin Amy Photography and these piccies had us smiling from ear to ear.
Emma’s bouquet was our ‘Trio Bouquet’ for $149.95 and her bridesmaids carried our ‘Due Bouquet’ for $99.95.
The colour palette she selected was a combination of ‘Fairy Floss’ and ‘Citrus Bliss’

The Posy Post Turns 6

It's our 6th Birthday this Wednesday 1st December and we want nothing more than everyone to come together to show love and kindness to one another.
To help, we are gifting 600 of our amazing customers and followers with a mini posy full of delightful dahlias. We’re asking people to take two mini posies - keep one for yourself and use the other for a beautiful act of kindness.

Some ways you could do this are:

Leave the flowers on someone’s doorstep
Shout a stranger a coffee and give them the flowers too.
Deliver to somewhere like a nursing home

Each mini posy will come wrapped in pretty paper with a blank card so you can include your unique and thoughtful message, and make someone's day a little brighter.

The mini posies will be available for collection from our studio on Wednesday 1st December from 8:30am-3:00pm.
WE HAVE NOW SOLD OUT OF OUR RESERVED ALLOCATION

If you have reserved posies, please collect from our studio: 7/50 Medcalf Street Warners Bay (Next to Clover Car Wash)

If the flowers aren’t collected by 3pm, we will complete our own acts of kindness with them.

Community over competition

wedding blog2.jpg

I feel like i have finally recovered from probably the most stressful day of my floristry life, so can finally share this story...

The most beautiful white summer blooms arrived for a wedding for the most gorgeous bride. Do happy dance, pretty chuffed with the flower choice. So excited to create this wedding with phally orchids, peonies, hydrangeas, basically all of the good stuff! Feeling nice and organised, so strip and care for flowers, make bridesmaids bouquets and put all of the flowers to bed in the cool room.

Wake up the next morning and spend a couple of hours at the beach with my boys. Come back to the studio to casually check on the flowers. Think to myself, hmmm the delphinium looks a little translucent... touch delphinium, heart sinks, flowers are FROZEN.

Now, you may not have experienced a frozen flower before, because well, why would have you?!. Let me tell you, this is NOT GOOD. $3000 worth of the prettiest flowers turning into mush for a wedding the next day.
Okay, I think FFFFF panic sets in, what do I do? I Can't go to market tomorrow morning and drive back in time to get to the Hunter Valley in time... let me tell you what you do, you message the absolute best group of flowers babes you could possibly ask for.

Rach heads to flower HQ to collect every single white flower she can find, Elissa offers up a bucket of delicious white garden roses, Ash offers up all of the dried goods, Megan offers her skills and foraging, Erin at Peter Herd Florist offers up more roses and time to recreate bouquets.

Not only did these babes go out of their way to come through with the goods, they had the flowers prepped, stripped and ready to go for me.

The next morning we deliver and create a stunning wedding, no one would have ever known what had just unfolded within the last 12 hours.

The moral of this story - so lucky to have such an amazing group of florists friends who have your back when you're in a pickle. Community over competition.

Meet The Day Makers!

Meet our wonderful Posy team!

MEET OUR TEAM!

Our tribe of day makers are the heartbeat of all that we do here at The Posy Post. We hit the road daily to deliver flowers to people in Maitland, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast. So we thought it was about time that you met some of our sunshine souls and deliver-ers!

Posy_Post_Web-46.jpg

Meet Lucy

1. Role - Day Making Chauffeur of Thoughtfulness (aka. delivery driver), hugger, bringer of posytive vibes (and rather loud laughs!)
2. Coffee order - Dirty Chai or Flat White on Coconut Milk
3. Favourite posy delivery story or moment of all time?
Reading the card message to a lady who was blind with a very special message from her daughter...she cried...I cried...it was so special to share that moment when it was something far more than the beautiful flowers.
The kindness and thoughtfulness of people blows my mind with the messages our senders write.
The surprised faces of those who have ‘never received flowers before’...until now!
And I also remember one of my very first deliveries being to an older lady who seemed to think I was just door knocking ‘selling’ flowers! They were a gift from a friend to her, but she kept insisting on paying me for them!
Oh and guys that answer the door in just a towel are pretty memorable too!!! (Haha! Maybe leave that one out!?) HA sorry not sorry, Lucy!
4. When you're not making people's day at The Posy Post, how do you spend your time?
Having a sunrise swim or catching the sunset over the lake, trying anything new/creative/a little bit crazy, being entertained/exhausted by my lil superstar Eddie (5) or running events/sessions with clients to talk ways to better be, love on and celebrate ourselves as women in this crazy beautiful life! Meet Tracey

1. Role - Posy deliveries and processing orders/delivery routes.
2. Coffee order- Good old D.I.Y at home coffee with 2 sugars and milk haha (...and a pot of tea every now and then never hurts either.)
3. Favourite posy delivery story or moment of all time? - It'll never get old seeing a recipient receive their posy with a look of surprise that eventually turns into a big smile or sometimes even happy tears. One posy moment that struck a chord with me and will stick with me forever was a delivery to a young lady who was ordering posies for herself every week or 2 over a few months and whilst I had never actually met her and only had a few friendly/polite interactions with her family, it had saddened me to find out that she had passed away. I later learned that she was battling cancer. Although a sad moment and even though I may have never met her, it's nice to think that a delivery of a simple posy may have brightened her darkest days and when I think of that brave young lady I am reminded life is precious and to seek joy even in the simplest things. Why I love delivering posies!

5. Favourite flower - Sea holly

Meet Tess

1. Role -  Posy maker
2. Coffee order - Double cap
3. Favourite posy delivery story or moment of all time? Every flower delivery day!

5. Favourite flower - I’m obsessed with Natives at the moment after traveling and living abroad for past 8 years. But all time fav would have to be Cymbidium Orchids.

Meet Tim

1. Role - Delivery driver, Highly trusted and reliable posy counter ;)
2. Coffee order - Flat White
3. Favourite posy delivery story or moment of all time? It was a one-off Saturday delivery day and I had a posy for a bride from a good friend who was sending her best wishes and apologies as she was unable to make the special occasion. As I was approaching the front door I could hear a party and the screams of scull, scull, scull!! I knocked and waited patiently for 10 secs before knocking again. I was greeted by the mother of the bride who then invited me in to pass the posy onto her daughter.. and that's when the tooting begun as they thought I was the stripper, only to be bitterly disappointed.
Along with this story there is the countless number of times I get asked "Do you come with the posy"
4. When you're not making people's day at The Posy Post, how do you spend your time?
Beers and footy, Supercoaching, fishing, surfing and spending time with my beautiful wife Brooke and son Lewy!
5. Favourite flower: Banksia Integrifolia

Meet Pete

1. Role - Delivery driver
2. Coffee - Flat white
3. Favourite posy delivery story or moment of all time?  My favourite part of delivering is the joy you see when senior people, living alone, realise that someone is thinking about them.
4. When you're not making people's day at The Posy Post, how do you spend your time?
Outside of posy post deliveries I spend time volunteering  to help on projects that engage with local people in remote Australian communities as well as the Pacific Islands.  Books4Outback collects used books to rebirth in schools and pre-schools in the NSW outback. YWAM Newcastle provides medical outreach in the Milne Bay area of PNG. Major Projects Foundation aims to help to prevent pollution in Pacific Islands from oil leaks in sunken wrecks. Helping out with the land based support for a project installing communications infrastructure in remote aboriginal communities in the Kimberley region of West Australia.
As a new grandfather I expect to soon be spending a lot of time with my beautiful grand daughter Audrey.
5. Favourite flower - Hibiscus as well as the Tahitian Tiare Apetahi (a rare five petal flower that only grows on the sacred island of Raiatea.)

Meet Jess

1. Role - delivery driver
2. Coffee -Soy Chai Latte
3. Favourite posy delivery story or moment of all time? I’ve only done 3 days to date but my favourite things so far is the funny things people say on cards... “sorry for being a drunken idiot” or “bloody kids” for example. So relatable and brings some giggles to my day. Or the one moment I delivered to a school for a 6th birthday from a mother to her daughter. As a mother myself, it got me right in the heart.
4. When you're not making people's day at The Posy Post, how do you spend your time? I spend the rest of my time being a mother/taxi driver/cleaner/chef etc  to my 3 little humans (6,4 & 1) and my husband ... AND making tassels for my event hire business Fringe Folk.
5. Favourite flower - Sweet Pea- how they grow reminds me of the hoards of peas we grew in our veggie patch one season as kids.

Meet Brooke

1. TPP: Brooke, Da Boss, (haha! not sure if we can write that)
2. Coffee order: Orange mocha frappuccino! Not really just a boring latte, with a keep cup obvs ;)
3. Favourite posy delivery story or moment of all time?
One of the first deliveries we ever did, I was invited into the home of a lovely old lady who had lost her little doggo. She made me a cuppa, we sat on her front balcony and I learned all about the life of her sweet little puppy.
4. When you're not making people's day at The Posy Post, how do you spend your time? With the Lewy boy, spending time in nature, having a wine with friends and family and just livin' my best life haha.
5. Favourite flower: Gahhh such a hard question! It always changes, but at the mo I'd have to say a cymbidium orchid. Or any type of native really.

SUSTAINABILITY IN FLORISTRY - WHY WE CARE AND PRACTICES WE CAN IMPLEMENT TO HELP OUR PLANET

Why we care and what we can do for our planet.

Photo: Film and Foliage from one of growers, East Coast Wildflowers

Photo: Film and Foliage from one of growers, East Coast Wildflowers

Flowers are the best, right? They’re beautiful, they’re natural, not to mention they are often how we tell our loved ones we’re proud of them; we’re happy for them; we’re grieving with them and we love them. We use flowers to communicate in so many ways.

I find myself so in awe of what nature can produce. She blesses us with beautiful flora and feeds our souls so that we can, in turn, bless her back. But in this day and age, the real question is how can we give back to nature when we have taken so much from her? How can we engage in a sustainable and ethical lifestyle and what can we do to support businesses that are driven by this ideal?

Floristry is part of an agricultural supply chain and there are always ethical considerations to be made. We need to ensure that our business is not only aware of potential ethical and sustainability issues, but also putting practical solutions into action. Sustainability must be our priority in everything we do, otherwise what’s the point? What’s the point in making a profit if we won’t have an Earth on which to redeem that profit? All we can do is the absolute best we can. If we aren't constantly making better choices, we are standing in the way of our children's future.

So I thought I would share all the practices that we are doing as a business to help minimise our carbon footprint and become as ethical and environmentally conscious as possible. Government and big business have a huge role to play in the coming years, however, as a consumer, when we stand together, strength in numbers is a far greater power than any.

We'd love to hear any tips or tricks you may have so please message us on Facebook or Instagram or email us at hello@theposypost.com.au

WASTE

Posy_Post_Web-7.jpg

We always do our best to minimise waste, especially waste that goes to landfill. We're definitely not perfect but are always very conscious of this and constantly working to improve our practices in every area.

Apart from the sticker, everything in our final product for posies can be either composted or recycled. The flowers and the twine we use are compostable. We use recyclable paper to wrap our flowers and if posies are left in a cup on your doorstep, that too can be recycled. We have been working with our supplier to create a recyclable sticker and it should be arriving at the end of April (big win!)

We never use plastic or floral foam in our daily arrangements. We're also trying to source a compostable ribbon. Unfortunately, at the moment ribbon still goes into landfill. (would love some suggestions on ribbon alternatives!)

All of our waste is sorted and disposed of in the correct manner. We separate our compostables, recyclables and soft plastics and make sure to dispose of them accordingly.

At the end of the week, we usually have 1-2 garbage bags of waste that goes into landfill. Not too bad for a medium sized business!

One of the biggest issues for us is the yucky soft plastic sleeves that the majority of our growers still use to package their flowers in when we pick them up from the flower markets. While we do our best to recycle these, the hardest question is, how do we, as an industry encourage all stakeholders within our supply chain to use more environmentally friendly packaging.

No Floral foam

Many florists use what is called “floral foam”. You have likely seen it before. It’s that foamy part at the base of a bunch of flowers, there to keep flowers standing and to improve the longevity of the flowers. Foam takes years to break down with some experts suggesting that it may not break down at all in landfill! Not to mention, it contains carcinogens and is not great for your health. We always choose flower frogs and chicken wire instead of foam where possible. If you’re interested in learning more about the affects of floral foam follow No Floral Foam on Instagram.

SUPPORTING LOCAL

We're making a big effort this year to buy the majority of our flowers from local suppliers and only using flowers that are in season. This can be particularly difficult since we require so many different flower types en masse to fulfil our orders.

We're lucky enough to have one of the best native wildflower growers right on our doorstep at Mangrove mountain and so many other local growers close by.

A few FLOWER tips for you at home

  1. Upcycle and Reuse

  2. Water your garden with old bucket water

  3. Dry Your Flowers

Here are our flower drying tips:

Some other ways we minimise waste is dry leftover flowers to use for other design work. We love drying flowers so much. The result is beautiful and our workshop is full of dried flowers waiting to be styled!

BEST FLOWERS FOR DRYING

Banksia, Stirlingia, Misty, Protea, Statice, Paper Daisys just to name a few

HANGING UPSIDE DOWN METHOD

Gather flowers in a bunch and secure with twine, hang bouquet upside down, in a well ventilated area out of direct sunlight. There are lots of dried-flower decoration inspiration on Pinterest.

LAZY METHOD (LEAVING THE FLOWERS IN A VASE)

After you have enjoyed your bouquet the water in the vase has evaporated the flowers will eventually dry out. They will mostly remain upright except those with delicate stems. Flowers with strong/tough stems are best for this method because they won’t droop.

PRESSED METHOD

Use a heavy book (eg. Encyclopedia), line all the pages you are going to use with parchment or wax paper., arrange the flowers face-down, close the book and leave untouched for 7 to 10 days.

Again, we aren’t perfect but it is so important that we do our best to give back to the environment and think about our planet before we make our next move.

All our love.

We are delivering sunshine a little further down the m1…

Hello, central coast!

We recently expanded our delivery suburbs to include more suburbs on the Central Coast. This was in part because there was demand, but also because we really just love it there. At The Posy Post, we’ve always been about making people’s day through beautiful, affordable posies and now our tribe of day makers are reaching more suburbs than ever before! To say we are excited would be an understatement!

Why the Central Coast?

Traveling to the Central Coast, affectionately known to locals as the “Coast”, feels like a vacation. The coast, filled with city escapees, is a haven for anyone creative or in pursuit of a balanced lifestyle. There are boroughs of vintage shopping, cute cafes, local artist wall murals and high-end fashion labels. For us, it’s a nice reminder that all you need is a few hours, a towel and Google’s fastest route to the ocean.

Which suburbs?

We deliver as far south as Copacabana but you can find your suburb in our list of places we post.

OUR FAVOURITE SPOTS TO VISIT ON THE COAST

Since we consider ourselves pretty much Central Coast locals now, we’ve compiled a list of places to go on your next visit to the beachside destination. Us Posy Post girls are all about finding a nice spot to enjoy a bite to eat, a good coffee (or cocktail) and a little shopping spree.
In our posy delivery travels from Newcastle to the Central Coast, we have learned a few spots to go.

Delivering kindness, not just flowers

THE KINDNESS PROJECT.

The Kindness Project

Posy_Post_Web-159-min.jpg

At The Posy Post, we deliver kindness, not just flowers.

Our vision has and always will be to provide a platform for people to share the love and make the day of someone else. In the highs and lows of life, we like to see ourselves as a method of showing love to those you care about in a way that doesn’t break the bank. We want to make showing kindness easy.

Through our online community, we have been a witness for the very best and worst of people’s lives. On one trip we are delivering flowers to someone who is going through chemotherapy and then the very next delivery is a bride asking her best friend to be her bridesmaid. We drive from home to home each day with messages saying “Thank you for being there for me” and “I’m sorry to hear about your loss”. We have even had one guy ask his girlfriend to marry him. It’s our absolute privilege to play a part in these moments.

the bigger motivation for us is that we give people the opportunity to spread love and kindness.

We recently sat down and thought about our motivation for why we do what we do at The Posy Post. Yes, we love flowers (like really, really love them) and we love that we get to do this, but the bigger motivation for us is that we give people the opportunity to spread love and kindness. It’s small, affordable and simple. That’s always been our goal.

It’s important to seek opportunities for kindness whether that’s a kindness to the ones we love or kindness to ourselves. It’s what makes us human. Kindness separates us from every other living thing.

True kindness can never be counterfeit, imitated or bought. The kindness we are talking about is doing something with no thought of any return, it’s being generous and placing others before ourselves. True kindness is consistent even when circumstances are not.

We have the pleasure of witnessing people’s kindness every. single. day. So we are starting The Kindness Project. We are challenging you to show kindness in some way, daily. We are giving away one posy every day for the next two weeks. Our little tribe of day makers is delivering kindness to someone who really needs it. We would love for you to tag them in our #thekindnessproject posts.

We love what we do and we have loads of fun but we are also aware that sometimes we all need a little reminder that we are loved and cared for. Every bit of kindness counts!

They say to “throw kindness around like confetti”

So that’s what we’re doing. Only instead of confetti, we’ve got petals.

All the love
